The AI jobs paying up to $900K
Wait, it costs how much to live in Manhattan?!
Hey there! Who here remembers the ultra-viral TikTok, “What’s a scam that’s become so normalized we don’t realize it’s a scam anymore?” 🙋 Well, here’s our STS spin on that very Q:
➡ Healthcare tied to employment
➡ Employers who don’t raise salaries to match inflation
➡ Any entry-level position that requires 3–5 years of experience

Strap in: Companies such as Google, Netflix, and Hinge have made headlines after posting AI jobs with salaries nearing seven figures. 🚀 Here are just a few…
Why the AI gold rush? It’s simple supply and demand: There just aren’t enough data scientists, machine learning specialists, and other AI-specialized practitioners to go around. And since companies are well aware of the critical nature of these roles, they’re ready to shell out to lure in top talent. 💸
How to get the gig: Many of these roles require a degree in computer science, mathematics, or data science (and a strong understanding of statistics doesn’t hurt!). For senior roles, prior management experience is also a must.
2 The first child social media influencer law is here 🤳
It’s a win for the “kidfluencers.” Illinois became the first U.S. state to pass legislation ensuring compensation for child social media influencers. The bill, which goes into effect July 1, 2024, entitles child influencers to a percentage of earnings based on how often they appear in monetized content.
This law is the first of its kind. While existing legislation protects children’s income in traditional entertainment (TV, movies, etc.), nothing exists for those who perform online.
And the money these kids generate online isn’t nothing. It’s not uncommon for brand deals to fetch tens of thousands of dollars. Hopefully, this law sparks a trend that eventually goes nationwide. 👏
3 Gen Z feels guilty about going OOO 🫠
Gen Z is battling vacation guilt. 35% of Gen Z says they felt guilty not working while on vacation, per a recent LinkedIn survey of ~9,500 U.S. professionals. Only 22% of Boomers said they felt the same.
One theory as to why: To protect their budding reputation. Since Gen Z is just starting their careers, they may be eager to earn brownie points with managers by always being “on” (read: compulsively checking Slack while on the beach).
Our French friends, who get an average of 6–10 weeks of annual leave (on top of paid public holidays), would say this whole debacle is “n’importe quoi.”

If you’re thinking “It can’t possibly be C,” we have bad news for you.
But what does living in NYC really entail? How do incomes measure up against costs like rent, student loans, and daily expenses? Are most people living paycheck to paycheck—or somewhere in between?
We interviewed Gen Z, Millennials, and Gen X in NYC to understand their financial struggles and generational perspectives. Regardless of age, everyone agrees: the rent is jaw-dropping.
One of the frustrating reasons why employers don’t post the salary of their job openings. 🙄
Why AI hasn’t ignited the employment apocalypse we all thought was coming.

We loved chatting with Indeed about the importance of salary transparency in the workplace. 🙌
Thanks for reading! Before we part ways, we say “tomato, tomato, tomato” 🍅 to any employer who posts salary ranges like this.
Let’s call it what it is: an attempt to skirt a state’s salary transparency laws. 🤦
See you next Tuesday!
