The new side hustle for Swifties

And why women prefer WFH

Hi there! Can you match the following career advice to the famous person who gave it? Your options: 1) Oprah Winfrey 2) Bill Gates and 3) Barack Obama

A. “Gravitate toward work that solves a problem.”

B. “Just learn how to get stuff done.”

C. “Your purpose doesn’t have to be tied to your career.”

The answers are down below—good luck! 🤞

$11.3 million. That’s how much Taylor Swift scores in ticket sales for a single stop on her Eras Tour, making it one of the most lucrative tours in history. And it’s opened up a new market for Swiftie entrepreneurs.

Fans on Etsy are selling Swift’s very in-demand tour merch. One seller is earning ~$2K per month in net profit, while another is earning enough that, for the first time in her life, if she “wanted to get a coffee, she didn’t have to think twice about it.” (#goals)

But running an Etsy store isn’t easy. One seller works up to 20 hours a week. Would you launch your own merch store for your favorite artist? 🎶

2   Say hello to the ‘Big Stay’ 🏡

Goodbye, Great Resignation. After a record number of American workers (around 47 million) quit their jobs in 2021 in pursuit of better pay, benefits, and flexibility, the tide is now shifting in the opposite direction.

It’s been dubbed the “Big Stay.” According to ADP’s chief economist Nela Richardson, we’re entering a new phase—one where workers are now staying at their jobs as new job openings get rarer (U.S. job openings declined 20% in 2022).

The good news? Per the Atlanta Fed’s Wage Growth Tracker, now is still a good time to change jobs if you want to increase your pay: Job switchers are seeing a median raise of 7.6%.

3   More and more women are starting their own businesses 👏

According to a new survey from Fiverr, women are more likely than men to start their own business so they can have more flexibility, continue to WFH, and avoid toxic work environments.

It’s not hard to see why: In a report by McKinsey, nine in 10 women said they prefer WFH because they experience fewer microaggressions. Plus, it gives women (who often take on most childcare) much-needed flexibility.

This means the number of female entrepreneurs is growing—fast. According to Gusto, in 2021, 49% of new businesses were founded by women, up from 28% in 2019.
