The Workers Getting Raises in 2025
Are you one of them?
Welcome to 2025! This feels like the official week the new year starts, and what better way to start than with a raise?
More on that below, but before we get into this week’s topic, I want to share that we’ll be attending CES in Las Vegas on January 8th. I’ll be speaking on a panel at the Labor Summit with SAG-AFTRA at 2:30 PM. If you’ll be there, we’d love to meet you!
Thanks for being here, and we hope you enjoy this week’s newsletter.

Millions of workers receive automatic raises
As many Americans return to work, millions will see bigger paychecks thanks to minimum wage increases for more than 20 states as of January 1st. For most, these pay increases come from the rising costs of inflation (14 states), followed by legislation (5 states) and ballot measures (2 states) passed by voters.
So, how are these changes going to affect workers?
These minimum wage increases aren't just about the money but rather the significant impact they will have on diverse communities. Here’s the breakdown:
- 58% of workers getting raises are women, marking a big step towards pay equity.
- 5.3 million kids have a parent or guardian getting a raise. That’s money for groceries, school supplies, and everyday necessities.
- Black and Hispanic workers will receive a higher percent of raises compared to their representation in the workplace - an 11% increase for Black Americans (making up 9% of the workforce) and 39% for Hispanic Americans (making up nearly 20%).
- Contrary to misconceptions of the average teen assuming the majority of minimum wage jobs, 88% of these workers are adults - with half working full-time and 87% working at least 20 hours weekly.
